It seems as if most club members have gone with the Anytone AT-D878UV hand held radio for their DMR fix! It seems like a good quality radio with a nice clear screen and operate well (certainly with a hotspot)
Is this just the best radio at a reasonable price point?
Are there better options out there?
What makes the Anytone AT-D878UV better than a Baofeng equivalent (and yes I have had Baofeng analogue before and hated it!). The Anytone looks like a real radio and not a Baofeng toy.

Another thing about the Anytone 878 HT radio is that the CPS and Firmware updates are still coming in every couple of months. There is a lot of activity with this radio and lots of amateurs are buying it and feeding back to Anytone for new features and fixes.
I heard at the club meeting (Nov 2019) last night that some of the cheaper Chinese radios have less capable programming software. While the Anytone CPS has its issues, there are some very good features to enhance productivity. For example, export any aspect of the codeplug into a CSV file for import to a spreadsheet, do your work there, and then import back into the codeplug. Saves a lot of time.
The other bonus about this radio is that there are quite a few club members who have purchased it and all seem very happy with the purchase from a features to dollar ratio. Read this as there is lots of local help if you need it and since it is a very popular DMR radio around the world, there is lots of youtube and Ham blogs describing how-tos and features.

Ron is correct and because of this it has more features for the $$ than the Baofeng. If you Google 878 vs. there are YouTube posts from several comparing the two.
The Anytone is a real commercial radio which can also be configured for Amateur use. The firmware is actively being updated and there is a very good support via a FB group.
